The creator of the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, said on his channel that Apple has filed lawsuits against the administration of the service for the appearance in it of the function of selling content (paid posts). The company was categorically unhappy that it didn't have the ability to withhold a 30% commission from every payment from iPhone owners.
Durov emphasized that the ability to pay for content was implemented using third-party bots, and the authors received almost 100% of their subscribers and “it was great.” However, due to Apple's dissatisfaction, Telegram developers had to disable paid posts on iOS devices - there were no other options as "Apple has full control over its ecosystem".
The creator of the service called this incident another manifestation of how a trillion-cap monopolist "abuses its market dominance to the detriment of millions of users who are trying to monetize their content." He also expressed hope that regulators in the EU, India and other countries would stop the company's destructive policies, which tax entrepreneurs at a higher rate than any state VAT.
Telegram management, meanwhile, concluded Durov, will continue to work on “powerful and simple” content monetization tools, but outside the Apple ecosystem.
