RTX 4090 PCI cables can't be bent anyway, according to the manufacturer
It seems that the design of the new PCI cables is not good and your contacts can burn out. This was currently found on Nvidia RTX 4090 cards, where if users bend the cables too much, they can melt the connector.
Nvidia is already investigating, but in the meantime the 12VHPWR connector has already been tested by the PCI-SIG consortium, which designed the connector. While they won't admit they designed it poorly, they warn about what to avoid and at the same time say that some vendors don't have high quality cables.
Their tests have shown that the new kink-free cables have no problems, but if they are bent at a high angle, problems arise. The internal contacts do not fully touch and high currents also flow out of the contacts, creating heat and starting to melt the surrounding plastics. More precisely, after 2.5 hours, they noticed heat and melting after 10-30 hours.
Anyway, if you're going to have an RTX4090 or any other device with a 12VHPWR cable, it's something you should watch out for. Miniaturizing cables with high currents (maximum 600W, 50A) is not always ideal. If it is done, it must be done well.
Companies are starting to offer their cables little by little, but it's best to be careful for now, until it's clear who offers quality. Good to take off already bent straight with fixed ends. For example, something like he presented now introduced by cablemodele also published instructions on how to handle cables correctly.
