RTX 4090 graphics accelerator power connector melts for users

Several users on Reddit are reporting that their new GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card power cables are melting. The angled power terminal can also melt the plastic connection directly on the graphics.

Instead of four eight pins you connect GeForce RTX 4090 a twelve pin connector. At least that was the theory. However, the practice is a little different and power supply manufacturers still don't offer this cable in bulk. Owners of Nvidia's currently most powerful graphics should use the included throttling, which is accompanied by one issue after another.

First, users had to accept the fact that, according to the official specifications, the reduction can support low tens of connections. Another problem is twisting at the end. The density of the wiring is so high that if it is bent incorrectly, it can cause a fire. The already large graphics card is connected by an impractical and very vulnerable cable.

In the last few days, two Reddit users have reported that this connector on the side of the graphics card has started to melt. User reggie_gakil noted this issue with the Gigabyte RTX 4090 model. In addition to the cable, the connector directly next to the graphics card melted. User NoDuelsPolicy also has a similar problem. Your Asus RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC Edition also looks worrisome in the power connector area.

The second case was even better described. The issue occurred while playing Black Desert where the screen went black and all the fans were spinning at full speed. Subsequent inspection of the graphics revealed a slightly melted connector.

The Verge received a statement from Nvidia. The company is investigating both cases and is already in contact with the first user. Will contact the other as soon as possible.
