MediaTek revela chipset Dimensity 1080

Dimensity 1080...MediaTek has introduced another single-chip mobile platform with 5G support - Dimensity 1080. Judging by the specs, we are talking about a modification of the Dimensity 1050 chip, designed for smartphones in the lower middle segment, i.e. costing around $300.

The Dimensity 1080 uses a proven dual cluster CPU configuration with two Arm Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2 GHz. The chipset is manufactured according to TSMC's 6nm N6 process technology. Graphics accelerator used Arm Mali G68.

In addition, there is a MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 networking engine. This solution allows you to play an online game using a 5G-enabled SIM card, while answering phone calls on a different number. LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash memory are also supported. The mobile platform is capable of supporting a camera module with a matrix resolution of up to 200 megapixels, and an ISP image processor that allows recording HDR video in 4K resolution in real time.

The display of a smartphone equipped with Dimensity 1080 will be able to offer Full HD+ resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. While not much for 2022, higher spec screens are unlikely to be used for lower mid-range smartphones.

Support is provided for 5G SA/NSA networks up to 6GHz, dual-band frequency aggregation (2CC), Wi-Fi 6, and unnamed Bluetooth. It is known that in this modality, a third-generation APU processor is used to process data using artificial intelligence algorithms. The lack of support for mmWave 5G frequencies is quite expected, as they are used in few regions of the world and work with them is usually provided on more expensive smartphones.

According to the developer, gadgets using Dimensity 1080 will appear in stores as early as the fourth quarter of 2022.
