APPLE
Many analysts still believed that Apple could not ignore the trend of smartphones with a flexible screen indefinitely, and somewhere in a few years, it will introduce a version of the iPhone with a convertible body. CCS Insight experts are confident that the company will take the first steps in this direction with the iPad family, preparing a flexible display tablet for its 2024 debut. The experience gained will allow the company to further launch the iPhone with a flexible display.
According to experts at CCS Insight, whose comments are quoted by CNBC, it doesn't make much sense for Apple to launch a flexible-screen iPhone next year. Announcing such a device carries many risks in today's environment. First, such a smartphone should be significantly more expensive than existing iPhone models – in fact, the price should approach $2,500 so as not to hurt sales of traditional smartphones, which cost $1,599 in the case of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. .
Second, if Apple were to encounter technical difficulties in developing an iPhone with a flexible display, it would do significant damage to the company's image. On the other hand, Apple can't ignore the trend for flexible displays, so it might be a safer bet for the technology to debut with a corresponding version of the tablet. This, at the same time, would revive interest in tablet computers as such. The Display Supply Chain's first predictions mentioned the possibility of a flexible screen iPhone not before 2025, but along the way, Apple's interest in matching devices with a screen diagonal of around 20 inches has been emphasized. Theoretically, the company could use flexible screens in the notebook segment.
CCS Insight along the way predicts that Apple will be able to integrate the modem into iPhone processors by 2025, providing devices in this series with native support for 5G networks. In 2019, Apple bought Intel's mobile modem development business, but so far the fruits of the work of the relevant experts have not materialized in the first company's products. Experts predict that next model year Apple smartphones will still rely on the use of Qualcomm modems. Apple's relationship with the latter cannot be called smooth, and from the point of view of the Cupertino company, vertical integration allows it to optimize costs, so the question of the imminent appearance of Apple's own modem solutions is certainly on the agenda. Based on CCS Insight's predictions, the company will be able to integrate modems into its own processors for the iPhone no earlier than 2025.
