American financial regulator will create a department to work with cryptocurrencies

The US Securities Commission (SEC) officially announced its intention to open two new offices: first, it will deal with cases related to the cryptocurrency sector, or second, it will specialize in the life sciences sector.

The new departments of the SEC, called the Office of Crypto Assets and the Office of Industrial Applications and Services, expanded the scope of the department, which previously included seven divisions that process documents for the disclosure of corporate information.

Cryptocurrencies and other digital assets have really grown in popularity in recent years – now they are increasingly intertwined with the traditional regulated financial system, and politicians are increasingly talking about the need to monitor the risks in an unregulated sector.

In this sense, the situation in 2022 was a little simplified when the demand for cryptocurrencies fell drastically. It was caused by several negative factors at the same time: the Ukrainian crisis, or the opening of monetary policy and high inflation in the United States, in addition to various investigations against cryptocurrency companies.
