Professional cinema camera firmware upgrade to perform cloud video streaming and recording

Sony will release a firmware update for the Sony FX9 Professional Cinema Camera. The release of the new software - Ver.4.0 will take place in October this year. The update will be free.

With the new firmware, the Sony FX9 cinema camera will receive improved support for C3 Portal (Camera, Connect, Cloud). This system, introduced by Sony, allows you to export recorded files directly to the cloud, as well as upload LUT files from the cloud to the camera.

The function of transferring video from anywhere (when connected to the Internet) is quite convenient. It will also allow you to organize Sony FX9 film camera streams. At the same time, it is specified that in the case of Sony FX9, support for automatic downloading of high-resolution files will be implemented.

Updating the firmware to Ver.4.0 will add several other improvements. Improved sound indicator switching.

The Sony FX9 full-frame cinema camera was announced in September 2019. The camera has a new sensor called EXMOR R, and it is different from the Sony Venice sensor. However, it has VENICE's dual ISO base, at 800 and 4000 ISO. Sony claims the sensor has over 15 stops of dynamic range.

Sony FX9 Film Camera Features:

1) Full frame 6K digital camera

2) ISO 800/4000 dual base

3) Autofocus with face detection and Eye-AF

4) 4K 4:2:2 10-bit memory card recording

5) UHD up to 60fps, HD up to 180fps

6) Four channels of audio

7) External 16-bit RAW recording with auxiliary device

8) S35 4K 10-bit recording at 120fps to an external recorder

It was also reported that the Sony FX9 film camera was able to record video in the popular ProRes RAW editing codec. The availability of this recording mode was announced by Atomos. ProRes RAW will be available when connected via the Atomos Shogun 7 recorder's SDI port.

In November 2020, Sony released a more cost-effective film camera – the Sony FX6. It also received a full-frame sensor (its resolution is 10.2 megapixels) and the ability to record UHD video at up to 120fps and 4K DCI 60fps.

On September 28, Sony may introduce a new compact cinema camera - the Sony FX30. The CMOS sensor will have a resolution (according to the latest information) of 26 megapixels. Video recording on the new film camera is implemented with support for 4K up to 40 frames per second. The device will be made in Sony FX3 film camera format.
