KENKO TOKINA
Kenko Tokina introduced a $34 matchbox-sized camera that takes pictures, videos and can also be attached to the fridge like a magnet.
Tokina, known for its lenses like the recently announced Tokina ATX-M 11-18mm F/2.8 E, has just released a new miniature viewfinder camera, the Pieni II.
Pieni means "small" in Finnish - and that certainly applies to this tiny camera, which measures just 51 x 36 x 18 mm and weighs 18 grams (not counting the microSD card needed for video recording).
It by itself is not designed to replace the main camera. The press release states that she produces watercolor quality images. Those ones. photos will not be sharp even compared to the quality of photos on smartphones.
Pieni II is equipped with a 1.31-megapixel 1/10-type CMOS image sensor capable of capturing 1280×1024 images and 720p video at 30fps, and has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
The camera is available in grey, mint, peach and orange color options, and there are four Sanrio character designs: Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin and Pochacco.
The standard Pieni II model will cost ¥4,880 (approximately $34), while the Sanrio versions will cost ¥6,580 ($46). All versions of the cameras are now available for purchase, with the exception of the version with the Pompompurin character, which will be released on October 7th. The original Pieni was never released outside of Japan, so you'll have to look for the camera in online stores abroad.
Let me also remind you that we previously reported that a Leica camera appeared in China for $99, but in reality it is a compact digital camera in a cardboard box. The peculiarity of this case is that you can put a photo from any camera in it.
