IFA 2022

First impressions | Lenovo Ideapad 5i...The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i, released at the Berlin IFA event, is the manufacturer's first 16-inch Chromebook. It has such rarities as a full-sized numeric keypad.

The laptop clearly belongs to the quality category of Chromebooks. Of course, the device is large, which means it does not belong to any portable nobility. Its body is still reasonably sturdy in this price category and nicely finished, but the screen of the device is especially pleasing.

In the best version, the 2.5K screen with the 16:10 aspect ratio reaches a brightness of 350 nits. The cheaper display option shown in the pictures reaches Full HD resolution, and at the same time the brightness also drops to 300 nits and the refresh rate to 60 hertz. The 2.5K resolution is more than enough for a laptop, as the device on display was absolutely stunning even with Full HD resolution. A better screen would also have a refresh rate of 120 hertz, which makes surfing even smoother. The basic display was all the more comfortable to use based on a quick introduction.

Depending on the model version, the Ideapad 5i has either four or eight gigabytes of memory. In addition to this, the SSD storage space can be either 256 or 512 gigabytes and the eMMC space 64 or 128 gigabytes.

The dimensions of the device are: 356.5 x 253 x 20 millimeters, and the weight is at least 1.86 kilograms. Battery life is promised to be 12 hours. This would not be completely impossible, as the bulky device can fit a large battery.

With the size, the touchpad has also been enlarged to a large size. The feeling was at least decent. The same applies to the keyboard. The length of the trajectory was said to be 1.5 millimeters, and the use did not feel bad at all, rather the keyboard had even more typing comfort than the trajectory could have suggested.

There are two speakers, but you couldn't get any real meaning from the sound reproduction in a noisy environment. The webcam is at Full HD level, and the camera has a physical switch in Lenovo's familiar style that can be used to cover the lens.

Under the hood you can find WiFi 6E and the best performance is provided by Intel's 12th generation Core i3 1215U processor. The connection equipment includes one MicroSD card slot, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connections and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A connections, as well as an audio connection.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook models start at 549 euros, and sales will probably start in September.
