Recent rumors confirm that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus may receive an improved version of Apple's A15 Bionic processor, while the 14 Pro/Pro Max will receive a more powerful version of the A16 Bionic. According to data released by The Wall Street Journal, the new processors will provide a slight improvement in graphics performance compared to the base versions of the A15 found in the iPhone 13 line.
The source has not yet specified what kind of improvements to expect, however it can be assumed that they will focus on improving the GPU. The fact is that in 2021 Apple presented two versions of the A15 Bionic. One of them was equipped with a 4-core GPU and was used in the cheap iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. The second had a 5-core GPU and was installed in the more expensive iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. This gave a 55% increase in video performance compared to the A14 Bionic GPU. In comparison, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini graphics were only 15% more powerful than the A14.
Additionally, the A15 Bionic's high-performance processor cores were clocked at 3.23GHz, although the iPad mini 6 was clocked at 2.99GHz, technically creating a third version.
It is assumed that in the new generation the company will use the same strategy. So, most likely, the “improved” version is a refurbished A15 model with 5 GPU cores. Maybe it also increases the frequency or there are other improvements.
The presentation of the iPhone 14 will take place tomorrow, September 7. Everything will be known there.
