Xiaomi showed a prototype of a new gadget with the function of processing brain waves. MiGu Xiaomi Headband is an electronic headband that is attached to the user's head and allows you to control your smart home with the power of thought. The device was developed at Xiaomi's third hackathon, an in-house event where engineers present and implement promising concepts, according to The Register.
According to a video posted by Xiaomi on Weibo, the new platform could be a convenient alternative to voice commands. The MiGu works in conjunction with a smartphone, connecting to it via Bluetooth. When the wearer puts on the bandage, a set of three sensors starts tracking their brain activity, transmitting data to the smartphone. The latter decodes and interprets the signals, transmitting commands to devices in the home ecosystem.
There can be many application scenarios for a new gadget. For example, the MiGu owner only needs to think that he is hot for the system to send a command to the air conditioning and lower the temperature by a few degrees. Or, if the user wants to drink coffee, they can send the appropriate command to the coffee maker without getting up from the couch. In the future, technology will allow you to do many electronics-related household tasks just by thinking about them. The volume of the “bandage” raises questions, but this is clearly a temporary solution in the prototype phase. The market product, if it comes, will be much more elegant.
In addition to smart home control, Xiaomi is also considering using MiGu to support drivers. If the gadget senses that the user driving the car is too tense or losing concentration, it will send an appropriate warning with a call to focus or stop. In this way, Xiaomi wants to make transport management safer.
At the moment, MiGu Xiaomi Headband is not a commercial product and even a working prototype that the company is preparing for release. Projects developed in an online hackathon are created for proof of concept and internal testing. Whether the MiGu will resist them is still unclear.
