Samsung and Apple dominate the European smartphone market, Chinese brands fall

A study by Counterpoint Technology Market Research suggests that the European smartphone market volume in terms of parts in the second quarter dropped to the lowest value in the last two years.

Samsung smartphones are the most popular in Europe: the share of this South Korean giant rose from 27% to 32% over the year. In second place is Apple, which has strengthened its position from 21% to 24%. “Bronze” went to Xiaomi, but the share of this company was reduced from 27% to 19%. Furthermore, the top five included Oppo and Realme with a score of 5% and 3% respectively.

Approximately 40.3 million smart cellular devices were shipped to Europe between April and June inclusive. This is 11% lower than the result for the second quarter of last year, when deliveries totaled 45.0 million units.

It should be noted that in the context of restrictions in China associated with the pandemic, shipments of Xiaomi and Oppo devices to Europe dropped sharply: the drop was 39% and 26% compared to last year's volumes. Realme posted the highest growth in shipments among the top five companies – up 21% year-over-year.

In the near future, the current geopolitical situation, high inflation and general consumer distrust could have a negative impact on the European smartphone market.
