More details of the new Galaxy Z Fold 4

Samsung today officially introduced the flagship smartphone Galaxy Z Fold 4. The news doesn't bring any revolutionary changes - the developers just tried to make one of the most popular smartphones in the world with an even better flexible display. If it worked - time will tell.

As befits a flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is built on the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 single-chip platform. The amount of RAM is only 12GB, but there are three flash memory options. Standard - 256 and 512 GB, and on the official website in some regions it will be possible to buy a version with 1 TB of flash memory.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 had a triple 12-megapixel camera, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 only has a 12-megapixel sensor - it is used in the module with an ultra wide-angle lens. The main module has a 50-megapixel sensor, a wide-angle lens and an optical image stabilization system. There's also a module that provides 3x optical zoom (or 30x the so-called "Spatial Zoom") - it uses a 10-megapixel sensor.

The front camera of the external display is with a 10-megapixel sensor, and inside there is a 4-megapixel sub-screen front camera.

The internal display of Dynamic AMOLED 2X when unfolded has a diagonal of 7.6 inches, an aspect ratio of 6: 5 and a resolution of QHD+. The frame rate reaches 120 Hz, the brightness is 1000 cd/m². It is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ tempered glass. External AMOLED screen - 6.2-inch diagonal, 2316 x 904 pixel resolution and 120 Hz frame rate.

The smartphone is well protected from water (the IPX8 rating says it can withstand a half-hour submersion to a depth of 1.5m) and has a pretty solid construction (tested to 200,000 unfolding and folding cycles).

Battery capacity hasn't changed - all the same 4400 mAh. And the maximum power of wired charging also remained the same - 25 W, but the efficiency has clearly increased as the smartphone charges faster: 50% in half an hour (Galaxy Z Fold 3 was charged to 33% in the same time). Both 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging are supported.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4's large screen can display two windows (next to each other) or three windows. At the bottom there is a panel, similar to the Windows taskbar - the company has tried to make the interface as convenient as when working with laptops. From the makeshift taskbar you can access your favorite apps or, for example, those that have been used recently. Of course, the smartphone works with a proprietary S Pen digital pen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 setup also includes stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a USB-C 3.2 port. The frame is aluminum. Unfolded dimensions - 155.1 x 130.1 x 6.3 mm, folded - 155.1 x 67.1 x 15.8 mm. Weight - 263 grams. The operating system is Android 12 with One UI 4.1 interface.

Prices are advertised and are considerable. For an entry-level Galaxy Z Fold 4 with 256GB of flash memory, they ask $1,800 in the US and €1,800 in Europe. The 512GB version costs €1,920 in Europe, while the 1TB version costs €2,160. Pre-orders are now being accepted, retail sales will begin on August 25th.
