Netizens started complaining that Office 2021 has ads that offer to buy a three-month Microsoft 365 Family subscription. This has been known since August 10. Additionally, the information was confirmed by Microsoft Azure Security Lead Security Systems Architect Lee Holmes. He expressed dissatisfaction with this as the ad was displayed as an alert bar in the Office menu (pictured above).
This format, according to experts, is not very good, as it looks like a notification about the need to enable macros. Microsoft simply replaced the label on the "Enable Content" button with the line "Use Offer".
This is not the company's first attempt to advertise its services in this way. In March, Microsoft added ads to File Explorer, but only on Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22572, not at launch.
And last year, Microsoft started actively warning users that the Edge browser is better than Google Chrome. In addition, the company has already started advertising its browser in the recommendations section of the Windows 10 Start menu and has also tried using full-screen ad units.
It is not yet clear whether the company will disable these ads after the negative reaction to them, or whether users will have to do it themselves.
