Company ceased its historic collaboration with lens maker Zeiss

HMD Global revealed that it has ceased its historic collaboration with Zeiss to supply optical components for Nokia-branded smartphones.

Through a press release, the company made it official that the partnership between the two companies still ended in 2021. However, HMD Global did not provide any information about the reasons that led to the end of the collaboration with Zeiss, but one of the reasons it could be the desire to reduce the production costs of future smartphones.

The collaboration between the two companies culminated in the launch of some smartphones from the impressive photographic sector, such as the 9 PureView, but at the end of 2020 Zeiss announced another collaboration with Vivo, stating that the partnership with the Finnish company continued, but that there was no longer exclusive.

At this point, it remains to be seen what programs HMD Global has reserved for the cameras of its future smartphones, but one thing is for sure: the Nokia XR20 was the company's last smartphone to be launched with optics from the German company.
