Redmond giant announced the launch of a new gaming division that will focus on exclusive titles for the Xbox cloud ecosystem
The project will be led by Kim Swift, lead designer and developer of Portal and Left 4 Dead at Valve. Last year, Swift joined Microsoft as the Senior Director of Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The company released a video in which it turned to developers with a new concept. Xbox plans to partner with the best teams to bring new experiences to gamers. The presentation notes that such games will only be partially located on the company's servers. But some design elements like physics, AI or lighting will be calculated remotely, which will free up additional power on the consoles.
An early example of the new concept is the multiplayer session of Crackdown 3, in which the environment breaks down into various elements in the same way for all players without any loss of performance.
Last week, Ubisoft announced its own Scalar cloud technology, which also aims to increase the scale, refinement and performance of games.
