The social network Twitter announced this Saturday, January 15, the closure of the account linked to the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who had posted a video asking for revenge for the murder of General Qassem Soleimani, apparently directed at former US President Donald Trump.
“This account has been permanently suspended for violating our rules,” a Twitter spokesperson confirmed to Agence France Presse.
The @KhameneiSite account this week published an animated video simulating revenge against Donald Trump, who two years ago ordered an attack that killed General Qassem Soleimani, then head of the Qods Force, the Revolutionary Guards, responsible for the external operations of the Iranian army.
This is not the ayatollah's main English account, which is still active, but a multimedia account that relays his activities.
Last year, a similar account was suspended by Twitter over a video of the same genre.
The protection of people and the content of conversations on the social network is a priority for the company, which decides to exclude behaviors considered abusive in its rules of use. Architect of Iran's regional influence strategy, Soleimani was killed on January 3, 2020 in Baghdad by an attack carried out by a US drone, an operation ordered by Donald Trump.
The Iranian supreme leader has repeatedly vowed to avenge his death.
On January 3, on the second anniversary of the attack, Iranian President Ebrahim Raissi also threatened former US leaders, including Donald Trump, with “revenge”.
