BLACKBERRY

Old branded cell phones will lose support and will be almost inoperable

Even the most basic features of cell phones will not be available on BlackBerryOS enabled devices

It's also amazing to think about what the user experience in the dawn of 2022 could have on a phone that replaced the 2015 BlackBerry OS, or God forbid, the even older BlackBerry 10 will drive it. Soon, however, there really will be every reason for those who for some reason would have insisted on such a device to replace the phones of a company known for its big keyboards.

Support for both operating systems will be permanently phased out on January 4, 2022.

As a result, features that are absolutely essential for a cell phone, such as calling (including emergency calls), sending and receiving SMS messages, mobile data traffic or Wi-Fi connectivity, “will not work reliably”. By the way, the date was announced much earlier, in September 2020 (when the last support extension was announced), now they just reminded their customers that in many ways their obsolete devices will be almost completely unusable.

Some have tried to find software solutions to keep the devices active, but those attempts have been unsuccessful, but at best it's questionable whether they will continue to function once the necessary services are shut down. BlackBerry phones, however, have not fully recovered and have a future, although by 2020 the then-licensing partner stopped producing additional devices. Since then, BlackBerry has found a new partner to work on developing a smartphone with 5G capability.
