Android 12 Go edition version for low-end gadgets is presented
Google shared some details about the innovations that will appear in a special version of the Android 12 Go edition, designed for low-end devices. The developer made the system work faster, made it more energy efficient, and offered new privacy protection tools.
Apps for the new lightweight Android version launch 30% faster. New animation effects have been made available to developers with the SplashScreen API, and users no longer have to stare at a blank screen for long while the app is open. Apps that are not used for a long time are sent to sleep, freeing memory and extending the device's battery life; if the inactivity period reaches several months, the system resource access settings will be reset for these applications. The updated Files Go app allows you to recover files deleted less than 30 days ago.
The system offers new tools for understanding the content on the screen: in the list of running applications, access to the functions of translation and reading the content aloud appears. Nearby Share now lets you save bandwidth when downloading large apps from Google Play: if the software you need is on a nearby phone, you can download it from there. Logging in to the guest account on the device can now be done directly from the lock screen. The system offers more transparent tools about what features installed apps are using, and notifications are displayed in the status bar when apps are using the most important ones, including microphone and camera. When configuring access to geo-position, the user can now transmit not exact but approximate coordinates – they will be sufficient for services like weather forecasting.
Devices with the Android 12 Go edition will hit the market in 2022.
