SAMSUNG

Company will start producing 4nm processors

In its annual reports, AMD has mentioned Samsung Electronics as a partner in producing graphics solutions for several consecutive years, although it may well be about supplying memory chips. In the second half of next year, analysts say, cooperation between the companies could move to a new level - the Korean contractor may receive requests to launch AMD 4nm processors for Chromebooks.

This prediction is accepted by analysts at JP Morgan, an excerpt from the report published on Twitter by Marc Moeldner. This type of product will be produced in limited quantities and, for AMD, it will likely be just a “pen test” before a more serious stage of cooperation with Samsung. As early as 2023-2024, AMD is expected to instruct Samsung, according to experts at JP Morgan, with the launch of 3nm products, which will include graphics processors and centrals. AMD 3nm products are unlikely to become mass production before 2024, because TSMC has yet to dominate production of AMD 5nm products in the second half of 2022.

Along the way, experts predict that NVIDIA will return to TSMC for the production of its Ada Lovelace generation gaming GPUs (GeForce RTX 4000), which will be produced using 5nm technology by a Taiwanese contractor. As you know, gaming GPUs with Ampere architecture for NVIDIA are now produced using Samsung 8nm technology, and server computing accelerators using 7nm technology are manufactured by TSMC.

It is assumed that by the second half of next year, AMD GPUs will also be transitioned to TSMC's 5nm process technology. Intel will manufacture its video card chips using 6nm technology at TSMC companies. In 2023, the processor giant will begin ordering TSMC to produce some crystals using 3nm technology, they can be used in both central and graphics processors and programmable arrays.

Qualcomm no longer hides that it will launch its flagship Snapdragon 8 Series Gen 1 mobile processors using 4nm TSMC technology, and Qualcomm's first 3nm products will be registered in the TSMC pipeline until 2024. In 2023, Apple's first 3nm processors manufactured by TSMC will appear for mobile devices and computers of this American brand. At the same time, the Taiwanese contractor will dominate production of Apple's own modems.

According to JP Morgan representatives, TSMC will control up to 90% of the worldwide services market for the production of 5nm products, as well as at least 80% of the services market for the contract manufacturing of 3nm products.
