APPLE

Next iOS 15.2 update will show user if gadget has non-genuine parts

Last Tuesday, Apple published a document describing the work of the iPhone's new parts and service history feature – it will appear with the iOS 15.2 update. With your help, the phone owner will know if all the phone details are original. It will also be useful when buying a used device.

If, during an internal check, the system detects a non-genuine spare part in the device, it will be marked in the list with a warning icon and the caption “Unknown part”. Alerts will also be displayed when a part is found on another iPhone, a defective component, or an incorrectly installed part.

The function will be useful, for example, when purchasing a used smartphone – it will be immediately clear if it has been repaired. And after receiving the device after repair at the workshop, the owner will understand if the master used original parts. The feature will also provide an incentive to use genuine parts in unauthorized repair shops – starting next year, Apple will begin providing parts for its products through its self-service repair program.

Note that the function will work a little differently for different devices: on iPhone 12 and 13, the repair history of battery, screen and camera will be shown; The iPhone 11 will be limited to battery and camera; and previous second-generation iPhones XR, XS, XS Max and SE will only show battery history.
