Independent developer “Break the Barriers” of the iPhone11 U1 Chip
Apple has severely limited the functionality of the U1 chip, which has been installed in its smartphones since the iPhone 11. Independent developer Bastian Alenofsky managed to “break the barriers” and show what this chip is capable of.
Alenofsky has created an app with which you can control multiple devices in your home by pointing your smartphone at them and choosing action options (for example, adjusting lighting and turning multiple devices on and off). The U1 chip locates these devices, allowing the app to understand exactly what the user wants to do.
The iPhone evolved into a universal remote. Devices “know” exactly where the console is headed.
Unfortunately, you cannot do the same just by installing the application created by Alenofsky. The fact is that Apple limits the use of the U1 exclusively to its ecosystem (mini HomePod and AirTags), so the developer had to develop a special board that uses ARKit. ARKit augmented reality technology allows you to determine a person's location in the room and track their actions with a smartphone.
