Brand optimizes its hard drives used for surveillance systems

Toshiba Electronics Europe announced the expansion of the S300 family of hard drives, specially designed for use in multi-level video surveillance systems.
Mosaic magnetic recording (SMR) models were launched. This technique uses overlapping trails to increase storage density and leaves only the magnetic surface necessary for correct reading. The negative aspect of this method is a significant decrease in the speed of recording and rewriting.
The S300 series SMR units are available in 2 TB and 4 TB versions with a 128 MB buffer. The spindle rotation speed is 5400 rpm.
The new units are designed for video surveillance systems in small and medium-sized businesses. These systems can combine up to 32 discs to record high definition video streams.
For more expensive and demanding CCTV systems that support up to 64 HD camera streams, video analysis, face tracking and video editing, Toshiba offers the S300 Pro Series with Traditional Magnetic Recording (CMR). These disks have a capacity of up to 10 TB and the buffer size is 256 MB.

"Toshiba's redesigned S300 and S300 Pro series hard drives provide a customized storage solution for the increasingly popular surveillance systems around the world. To meet the demands of today's video surveillance storage market, they provide performance consistent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are ideal for major video recorders and NVRs for video surveillance systems with eight or more drive bays, ”notes the manufacturer.
The Toshiba S300 Pro series and the new 4TB S300 are now available, and the 2TB S300 is due to be launched later this year.
