TIANMA

Chinese company creates LCD screen that recognizes fingerprints across the screen

Tianma, China's largest LCD screen maker, has announced a technology that turns the entire surface of a mobile device's LCD screen into a fingerprint scanner. The company announced its availability for mass production of new displays and started sending test samples to partners around the world.
The sub-screen fingerprint scanner technology, which is the advantage of OLED displays, is gaining popularity. More and more devices, even the mid-price segment, are starting to use it. Earlier this year, Chinese company Fortsense announced the creation of sub-screen scanners for more affordable LCD arrays (TN, IPS and others), a month earlier, TCL announced a similar development that allows it to incorporate a fingerprint sensor single under the LCD panel. But so far, we were talking about sensors located in separate areas of the screen.
Tianma's technology, called TED Finger Print or TFP, looks more interesting. Tianma has implemented a fingerprint scanner across the glass bottom of the screen. Thanks to this, the matrix is able to simultaneously display an image, respond to touch and recognize fingerprints.
However, the main advantage of the technology is that scanning can occur simultaneously in several locations and across the entire surface of the screen at once, and not just in a certain area, as in modern smartphones. In addition, TFP, unlike similar solutions from competitors, is capable of simultaneously detecting multiple fingerprints at the same time. Along the way, the manufacturer managed to reduce the thickness of the screen by 50% compared to analogues, in addition to reach the minimum frame thickness.
