There is new evidence about the Pixel 4 5G
Recently, a leak came to light indicating that Google would launch a 5G version of the long-awaited mid-range Pixel 4a phone. Now, XDA employees claim to have found references to a device from this OEM with the same connectivity in the records of a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). In that case, it looks like the 4th (5G) is coming to the US, at least.
There were rumors that Google could launch the Pixel 4a, widely discussed today (July 21, 2020), which would have been a pure way to steal the OnePlus' thunder. However, this now shows less and less chance of materializing: it remains absent from the Mountain View store, almost eliminating the possibility of a silent debut, as in the OEM's latest TWS headphones. Oh well.
New leaks from the Pixel 4a are still being provided, at least. The most recent refers to a putative version of the 5G-capable phone, which surfaced in a 9to5Google report. Now, a different blog claims to have found a new model number in the "MVNO Boom Mobile 5G list of compatible phones."
It is the G025E, which is particularly interesting, as the numbers G025J, G025N and G025M are those found in the approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for Pixel 4a. These last 3 can refer to different storage or RAM configurations.
Likewise, Boom Mobile apparently lists the G025E twice, possibly suggesting 2 SKUs for "Pixel 4a (5G)". On the other hand, nothing concrete is known about this potential new mid-ranger from Google. However, it probably runs on the Snapdragon 765G processor that powers what can be a significant rival in some markets: the OnePlus Nord.
This phone, launched through an AR application as programmed, can make life difficult for the Google Pixel team in terms of the price that the 4th can achieve. Nord now officially starts at € 399 (~ $ 460); therefore, if subsequent competitors are introduced for more, they may fall when they are on the market.
