Android 11 already has a supposed new name
Despite Google's refusal to name multiple versions of the Android mobile platform a second name, developers continue to use them internally. It turns out that Android 11, due out later this year, takes the internal name Red Velvet Cake (Red Velvet Cake).
Last year, Google officially announced that new versions of Android would no longer be given a second name. For this reason, Android 10, released in 2019, remained without a second name. Earlier versions of Android had a second name, usually associated with some kind of dessert or sweetness.
Last year, Android vice president of development Dave Burke revealed that Android 10 was given the internal code name of Quince Tart after the sweet pie. Despite the rejection of the official use of dessert names as names for different versions of Android, Google developers are still using them. This time, Dave Burke announced that Android 11 is called RVC or Red Velvet Cake after Red Velvet Cake.
However, there is no hope that the name of the Red Velvet Cake will be official. Burke confirmed that Google made the decision to abandon those names last year, and that decision has not been reviewed since then.
As a reminder, Android 11 is currently available as a beta version on Google Pixel smartphones and some other devices. The official launch date for the new mobile operating system has yet to be announced.
