Galaxy premium line will even make passport
Samsung is announcing that Galaxy S20 series smartphones will feature an innovative electronic identification (eID) solution for the first time, effectively replacing traditional identification cards.
Thanks to the new system, Galaxy S20 owners will be able to securely store their identification documents directly on their mobile device. In addition, electronic identification will simplify the process of issuing digital IDs by authorities.
The solution has already been tested in a joint pilot project with the Federal Information Security Administration of Germany (BIS), Bundesdruckerei (bdr) and Deutsche Telekom Security GmbH. To implement the project, the partners developed a unified architecture based on the system base protection for smartphones - your hardware. A chip built into the device allows information to be stored locally and gives users complete control over sensitive data.

Users can request the creation of an electronic electronic identification card using only a smartphone. After the organization responsible for creating it confirms the request, the eID will be automatically saved and isolated in a secure location on the device. The system uses end-to-end encryption. Only the company that issues the identifier and an authorized device can access the user's personal data.
Initially, the eID application will be available to German citizens: the solution will be implemented by the end of this year. It will be possible to electronically store the driver's license, health insurance cards and other documents on a smartphone.
