Russian telephone operator decrees the end of the Jurassic SIM card

It became known that the mobile operator Megafon began to test the technology of electronic SIM cards (eSIM). As part of the tests, the operator began to accept applications from its subscribers who wished to use the new technology. This was reported by the RNS news agency with reference to the Megafon press service.
The source notes that to participate in the testing of electronic SIM cards, Megafon subscribers will need to contact one of the sales offices. “We really started working on testing eSIM technology. The collection of eSIM connection requests for our subscribers started at Megafon's main store in Moscow and the connection in salons in the country's largest regions will begin next Monday, ”said the press service of the telecommunications operator.



As a reminder, in March of this year, subscribers to the virtual mobile operator (MVNO) Tinkoff Mobile and Tinkoff Bank customers had the opportunity to use electronic SIM cards. However, the Tele2 brand, which launched the service in April 2019, was the fastest to use electronic SIM cards in Russia. In May 2019, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Mass Communications asked telecommunications operators to suspend the issuance of electronic SIM cards, but this restriction was later lifted.
Remember that eSIM technology involves the use of a digital SIM card, integrated with a smartphone, tablet or smart watch. To connect to the operator's network, the user must scan the corresponding QR code.
