Mail and Calendar for Windows 10 “break” Gmail - solution found

In an attempt to quickly fill security holes or introduce new features, Microsoft often breaks something along the way. Since launching and then temporarily canceling the release of the Windows 10 version 2004 update, we’ve written about many of these cases. You can add another one to your list. As it turned out, the email client and the Calendar app for Windows 10 can break Gmail email accounts.
Mail and calendar are universal Windows platform (UWP) applications that can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Most reviews are positive - 4.4 stars out of 5, based on 2059 reviews. However, recently complaints have started to appear.

A user writes:
'' I encountered a problem with the Windows 10 email client that I linked to my Google account. I noticed that when you reply to an email, the sent message disappears and does not appear in the Sent, Outbox, Trash, Spam folders and generally anywhere else. Missing emails also cannot be found in the web version of Gmail. It looks like it is automatically deleted and disappears from the server “.

According to one of the experts on the Microsoft Answers forum, the latest versions of the Mail and Calendar apps for Windows 10 “break Gmail settings”.

He suggested a way to solve this problem:
''The best solution is to unlink the Gmail account from Mail and manually link it again through Forwarding and POP / IMAP using the IMAP settings specified in the Gmail prompt.”

The expert added that many users will have to change Google's security settings, providing access to less secure applications - Mail and Calendar for Windows 10 are considered by Google to be just that.

Another user suggested a different solution:
Go to Gmail.com, enter your username and password;
Click on "All settings" in the upper right corner;
Click on “Blocked filters and addresses”;
Click on “Create a new filter”;
Enter your email address in the From: field;
Click on “Create filter”;
On the next page, click on “Never send to spam”;
Click on “Create filter”.
It is not yet clear who will solve the above problem - Microsoft or Google - and if it will be. But the working methods are indicated above.
