RealSense D455 3D camera sees twice as far and works better than its predecessor

Intel introduced the new RealSense Depth Camera D455 3D camera. Can be used indoors and outdoors. It can be used in areas such as unmanned aerial vehicles, robotics, game systems, virtual and augmented reality platforms and more.
The device contains a pair of depth-of-scene sensors, an RGB sensor and an infrared projector. The ideal range of the camera has been increased to 6 meters. This made the novelty twice as accurate in calculating the scene depth compared to other D400 series cameras, but it did not lead to a decrease in the viewing angle.
The error in calculating the scene depth in the 4 meter range for the camera is less than 2%. In addition, the novelty offers several improvements. The distance between the 3D camera's depth sensors increased by 95 mm. This made it possible to increase the accuracy in determining the depth of the scene at a greater distance. Second, the depth sensors and the RGB sensor are in the same frame, which has also improved the work in determining depth and color alignment. Third, all sensors received the same viewing angle, which allowed us to align the color depth ratio and the number of bits per pixel in the image. In addition, the RGB sensor and depth sensors use global shutter technology. This made it possible to synchronize the viewing angle between them, in addition to increasing the accuracy of data transmission in two streams.

The camera has an inertial measurement unit (IMU), thanks to which developers can create solutions with advanced functions to determine the depth of the scene and track movements.
The output resolution of the 3D camera's data is up to 1280 × 720 pixels, the flow rate is up to 90 frames per second. The resolution of the RGB sensor is 1280 × 800 pixels at 30 frames per second. The dimensions of the RealSense D455 depth camera are 124 × 26 × 29 mm. The novelty is equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C connector. For operation, the camera uses the same SDK 2.0, used by all other models in the Intel D400 series of 3D cameras.
