BOSTON DYNAMICS

Company started selling Spot Robot to everyone for $74,500

Boston Dynamics, a company that creates impressive robots and resembles living creatures, has finally started selling the four-legged Spot robot freely. After several years of development, the company started last year to lease the device to companies, and today any American company can get Spot for $ 74,500.
This is a high price, equal to the cost of the Tesla Model S. But Boston Dynamics says that, in return, the buyer receives the most advanced mobile robot in the world, capable of moving almost anywhere that a person can (if not we're talking about accessories or rope ladders).
Although the robot is interesting, Spot is now able to observe and collect data. During testing, Spot created 3D maps of construction sites and solved machine problems on offshore oil platforms. Less routine tests include helping hospitals classify patients with COVID-19 and working in the police squad to look for bombs. Boston Dynamics insists that Spot is a multifunctional mobile platform that can be configured using a variety of sensors and programmed for patrols and inspections.

The company mainly sells the robot to industrial and commercial customers interested in providing sensors for hazardous locations, rather than for people. Or for routine operations, like photographing a factory 40 times a day. The company promises to continue updating the Spot based on customer feedback, but the robot is ready for sales. This is partly due to a recent software update written by Boston Dynamics engineers. Spot 2.0, called an update, provides advanced autonomy and navigation features.
One is the remote control. This will allow, for example, potential customers to test the Spot at the company's headquarters during the test phase remotely, without visiting Boston Dynamics. Some customers buy a robot without hesitation. And others want to try the unit before buying: the remote will allow it to be done.
Boston Dynamics said that this year a robotic arm with a head will be available, which will open up a number of new applications. The Spot will be able to manipulate the environment, collect objects, open doors, turn valves and press switches.
