Elderly is saved by Apple Watch function when falling from a height of more than 6 meters

A 92-year-old from Nebraska, United States, believes he was saved by the fall detector on his Apple Watch. Jim Salsman climbed a ladder to try to keep pigeons out of a silo and fell from a height of almost twenty feet. With no one around to help him, he tried to call on the digital assistant Siri and found that the smart watch had already alerted the local fire department about his accident.
"It was very stupid of me," acknowledged Salsman, who has been recovering for about a month at a hospital near his farm. According to him, everything was fine as he climbed the stairs. Suddenly, a gust of wind knocked him off balance and he fell. With great pain, he realized that he would not be able to reach his truck alone, so he decided to call Siri.
"I said to her, 'Hey, Siri, Jim Salsman, I’m very hurt on the farm,'" he said. To his surprise, the assistant informed him that he had already alerted the authorities to the fall, and the firefighters arrived in time to save his life. To find the fallen man, officials used GPS data shared by the Apple device.
This is not the first case of someone who was saved thanks to the Apple Watch drop detector, available since the fourth generation model, launched in 2018. In February last year, a 65-year-old man in Norway was rescued thanks to the function . There are also cases of lives saved by the electrocardiogram, which suggested preventive surgery to a 48-year-old American in July 2019.
According to rumors, the Apple Watch Series 6, due out this season, will include even more features to help save lives, such as a panic and anxiety crisis detector, as well as a blood oxygen monitor.
