Walmart's newest Onn tablets offer Android 10 and USB-C starting at $99
The successors to Walmart's Onn range of affordable tablets have arrived as the Onn 8 Tablet Pro and Onn 10.1 Tablet Pro. Both devices run a 2.0 GHz SoC coupled with 2/3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, Android 10, 5MP front and rear cameras, and a USB Type-C port. The base variant starts at $99, while the larger one will set you back by $129.
The affordable tablet segment is quite starved for choice, given that not many companies want to make them, especially in the United States. Last year, retail giant Walmart entered the fray with its hyper-affordable Onn line of tablets. All three of them were priced below $100 and ran hardware that reflected the price. Walmart has now released its successors in the Onn 8 Tablet Pro and Onn 10.1 Tablet Pro.
Both tablets have a screen size corresponding to their names and run a mystery SoC clocked at 2.0 GHz. Considering their prices, we're probably looking at an older MediaTek chip. The Onn 8 Tablet Pro comes with 2GB of RAM while the Onn 10.0 Tablet Pro bumps that up to 3GB. The 32 GB of internal storage is not expandable, unfortunately.
Walmart claims that both devices offer 'up to ten hours' of battery life, but the actual battery amperage isn't specified. There are even a 5MP front and rear cameras that facilitate some barebones photography. The charging and data transfer takes place over the USB Type-C port, something of a rarity on ultra-low-cost tablets. Fast charging support might not be present on account of them running an ancient SoC.
The Onn 8 Tablet Pro is priced at $99, and the Onn 10.1 Tablet Pro at $129. Both run a stripped-down version of Stock Android 10 out of the box. Outside of media consumption and some lightweight social media, these tablets won't get far due to hardware limitations. They're still attractive alternatives for those who do not need for the fancy bells and whistles offered by more expensive options. You can get your hands on the tablets on Walmart's official website or visit a local store to find out more.
