Xperia 1 II: Carrier confirms release date of Sony's much-anticipated flagship
The Sony Xperia 1 II looks to be the perfect flagship for some, but three months after it was announced, it still isn't available for purchase. That's about to change, though, as the phone has now been confirmed to go on sale on May 22 in Sony's home Japan. The Sony Xperia 1 II was announced back at MWC but here we are, three months later, and the flagship is yet to be released. Thankfully, though, the wait is almost over, as a Japanese carrier has now confirmed a release date for the Xperia 1 II in its home country.
Week ago, Japanese carrier DoCoMo changed its Xperia 1 II listing to show that the phone would be available by the end of May. Another carrier, au by KDDI has now given an exact date for the phone's release: May 22. DoCoMo's page still says it will available at the end of May, but we expect that to change soon.
While this doesn't tell us exactly when the Xperia 1 II will make its way to the US and Europe, we'd be surprised if it doesn't become available for pre-order at least in June. That's still an extremely poor launch by Sony, though, as consumers can hardly be expected to wait four months for a product to become available.
