ONEPLUS

OnePlus 8 Pro X-ray vision will be temporarily disabled for privacy reasons

OnePlus will temporarily disable one of the color filters on the camera of the OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone. Previously, users of devices found that using such a filter, the main module of the camera acquires "X-ray vision" and can see through some types of plastic and clothing. A real scandal broke out on the Web.
Although the company emphasizes that the photochromic filter is unable to shine through dense materials, OnePlus apologized for " creating privacy issues for its customers and Internet users.” The corresponding feature of OnePlus was published on its page on the social network Weibo.
The OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone went on sale at the end of April. But only last week, the owners of the device drew attention to the very interesting features of its main quadruple camera, namely a 5-megapixel sensor with a color filter. First, photographs appeared showing how the camera can shine through the plastic covers of the television remotes. Then came the turn of the Apple TV media decoder. And the authors of the YouTube channel Unbox Therapy showed that the camera can see through thin T-shirts.
It turned out that the OnePlus 8 Pro camera is able to capture infrared radiation invisible to the human eye. Most often, this feature can be found on special cameras, but not on devices of ordinary users, such as smartphones. For example, fire chambers allow to see through the smoke, so rescuers can easily navigate in a room with smoke.
When OnePlus 8 Pro was announced, the photochromic shooting mode seemed to be just an interesting feature for creative photography, but completely optional and not flawless. Reviews reported that this mode has a low level of resolution, so the photos are far from the highest quality.
Within a week, OnePlus will release a software update that will temporarily disable the color filter of the OnePlus 8 Pro camera. The company will sue you, however, it is not yet clear how.
