iPhone SE (2020) shines in our review with many small improvements
A new iPhone for less than $500? Currently, only the iPhone SE (2020) makes this possible. This sounds like a good deal and while the smartphone offers many contempory features, it lacks a modern design.
Smartphones are getting bigger and bigger - conversely, the iPhone SE fulfills the wish of many customers with the desire for a relatively compact smartphone and it starts at 479 Euros ($399), for which it offers a flagship SoC. What sounds like blend of Google Pixel 4 and an iOS-based Poco 2 possesses the handling properties of an iPhone 8 and will likely appear familiar to owners of an iPhone 6, 6S or 7 as well.
In this case, Apple has not reinvented the wheel and instead did a lot of fine-tuning. The iPhone SE is currently equipped with the fastest processor available, the A13 Bionic, and there is optional quick charging as well as wireless charging. The Californians are also still not using pulse-width modulation to control the screen's brightness and the display has a slightly better luminosity as well as a better color accuracy. On top of that, the device will most likely receive updates for the next 4 to 5 years.
Unfortunately, there is only a single-camera and although the screen-to-body ratio is reminiscent of a phone from 2016, particularly owners of one of the older iPhones mentioned above may see the iPhone SE as a worthy successor to a beloved piece of tech and for everyone else, it can be a relatively cheap ticket into the Apple cosmos.
