Google News estaria usando dados em segundo plano sem avisar usuáriosGoogle billed more than $4bi advertising News

$ 4.7 billion is Google's revenue from news in 2018, thanks to the work of advertisers and journalists on the worldwide search platform. For comparison, the figure is 59% higher than the box office of the movie Avatar, which was $ 2.7 billion.
The information, published by the American newspaper The New York Times, is given by the trade association News Media Alliance, which has an average of 2,000 US newspapers. According to the analysis, the money comes from digital advertising and the use of the Google News service, where all content is produced by third parties.
David Chavern, president of the association, says it's necessary to give some of that value to communication professionals who have their work exposed on Google. "They make money on this deal, and there needs to be a more favorable outcome for the media," he tells NYT - which is part of the alliance.
The amount disclosed does not cover the numbers that the company collects from personal data, such as each individual click on a specific article. Because of this, the association believes - and fears - Google's revenue to be conservative, and does not intend to share the gain. Last year, the United States received more than $ 5 billion from digital ads.
This information demonstrates that there is an emerging problem about the relationship between companies and the journalistic / advertising medium. Terrance C.Z. Egger, chief executive of The Philadelphia Daily News, says the study confirms what many already knew. "The current dynamics in the relationships between the platforms and our industry is devastating," says Egger.
The study will be released one day in advance, due to a hearing that will take place tomorrow in the House of Representatives on the disparity of this media-technology relationship. The discussion is expected to open space for the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act - a bill that talks about preserving journalistic production and its competition in the United States - to be approved.
So far, support for the bill has been split in both the Senate and the White House. If the project goes through and becomes official, it will be possible for news editors to negotiate directly with those responsible for digital platforms so that revenue is fairly divided. "I think everyone from readers to writers and politicians understands that if journalism leaves, it's a horrible outcome to whether or not we can support the republic," Chavern said.
Google told the NYT that these calculations are not true. The company also reported that the news service increases by 10 billion the number of accesses of the sites in its platform, and that have strived to be a collaborative technology and partner on a world-wide level.
Alongside Google, another way to spread your content well is through the social network Facebook. Putting the two together, they add up to 80% of virtual redirects to other sites. Because of the role they have, they play a big part in revenue sharing. However, because websites are so accessed by Internet users, newspapers benefit from their constant support.
Support for Journalism
Last week, during Google for Brazil, the company's most important event in the country, Google announced initiatives to assist journalism in the country. Among them, is a bag of 1 million reais for an innovative startup in the field. Entries for the program can be made through the Google News Initiative website. Maria Eduarda Cury, Brazil
