China is stuck with a virus-filled pendrive at Trump's golf house
A Chinese citizen was arrested on Saturday (30) at Mar-a-Lago, the property of Donald Trump in Florida, United States. She was in possession of a USB key loaded with malware, the so-called "viruses" that destabilize and attack internet programs. The US president was on the spot but played golf elsewhere in the club and had no contact with Yujing Zhang.
No one knows exactly how Yujing Zhang got into Mar-a-Lago. Once inside the property, she first said she wanted access to the pool area, before saying she was attending a demonstration celebrating the friendship between China and the United States. But no such event had been officially announced at the venue.
Alerted, Secret Service agents discovered that it carried four cell phones, a laptop, a hard drive, and a USB key. An examination showed that the latest device contained malicious software.
The intrusion worried Adam Schiff, the Democrat MP who heads the US Congressional Intelligence Committee: "We are deeply concerned about how the president and his family respect security protocols. But if there was an attempt to implement the virus, would be a very serious matter. For now, the case does not allow us to know more, "Schiff said.
No details were provided about the exact nature of malicious software. Yujing Zhang, who had a Chinese passport from Taiwan, was charged with a false statement to a federal agent and for trespassing on private property. Anne Corpet, RFI correspondent in Washington
