WhatsApp Starts Working on Dark Mode
WhatsApp may soon join the list of apps to offer a dark mode for Android users. The folks over at WABetaInfo have discovered that WhatsApp is currently testing the Dark Mode feature and is likely to release users in the near future. As reported by the website in October last year, the similar Dark Mode feature for iOS devices is also under testing.
Under Testing
The Dark Mode for Android was found while digging through the code of the latest WhatsApp 2.19.82 beta update. Since the feature is currently under development, it currently works only in Settings. It needs to be noted that the feature is not available for all users. Even if you install the latest WhatsApp beta on your device, you will not be able to try out the feature. As you can see in the screenshots below, WhatsApp has introduced quite a few design changes to all settings to ensure compatibility with the Dark Mode feature.
Unfortunately, though, there is another bad news. Based on the screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, it appears the Dark Mode for Android devices will use a very dark gray color instead of pure black. That said, it is important to keep in mind that the feature is in the early stages of development, which means changes can be expected.
It also means that both Android and iOS users will need to remain patient as it may take a while for WhatsApp to begin rolling out the Dark Mode feature. However, it looks like iOS users may get the feature sooner than Android users. Screenshots of the Dark Mode feature discovered in the WhatsApp 2.18.100 update for iOS last year showed the Dark Mode feature working in the main chats as well as conversation screens.
Are you looking forward to the Dark Mode feature? Tony Barrat
