Universidade de Oxford suspende financiamentos da HuaweiOxford University suspends funding from Huawei

In a statement, the University of Oxford, one of the UK's leading educational institutions, says it decided on January 8 that it "will not seek new funding opportunities" with Huawei or the decision, which applies both to funding research contracts such as philanthropic donations, has been taken "in the light of public concerns raised in recent months" around UK partnerships with the company.
The university statement said that two existing research projects worth 692,000 pounds (785,099 euros) will continue.
"We hope these issues can be resolved soon and we observe Huawei's own willingness to reassure governments about their role and activities," the statement said.
For its part, Chinese telecommunications group Huawei said it "has not been informed of this decision" and awaits the full explanation of the University.
The UK defense secretary and his intelligence official expressed concerns last month about Huawei's involvement in launching 5G networks in the country.
Huawei has been under investigation by the US Congress, which in a 2012 report found the company has a close relationship with the Chinese Communist Party, and facilitates Chinese espionage.
Founded in 1987 by Ren Zhenfei, a former engineer of the Chinese military, Huawei is now the largest global manufacturer of network equipment.
The 5G wireless networks are designed to connect autonomous cars, automated factories, medical equipment and power stations, so that several governments have begun to look at telecommunications networks as strategic assets for national security.
Last week, Poland's counterintelligence agency detained Huawei's director of sales on suspicion of spying after Huawei's financial director Meng Wanzhou was detained last month at the request of the authorities of the Huawei. United States. Lusa Agency
