O2 seeks compensation from Ericsson for blackout of mobile services
O2 UK is seeking compensation from Ericsson for damages caused by a software failure that the infrastructure maker has already acknowledged to be its responsibility.
According to local media, the mobile operator wants to be compensated by about 100 million pounds for the damages caused by the blackout that on December 6 and 7 left many users of its communications network unable to access the mobile data.
The Guardian says O2 CEO Mark Evans is expected to meet with Ericsson officials in the coming days to talk about what caused the blackout and negotiate a compensation package.
In a public statement, the infrastructure provider had already blamed it for a problem that also affected SoftBank in Japan and several other operators. At the origin of the event, there have been expired software certificates.
It is likely that the others affected by the "blackout" will also ask for some kind of compensation from the manufacturer. Sapo
