Fortnite's Overpowered 'Infinity Blade' Vaulted, Epic 'Re-Evaluating' Mythic Items
Earlier this week, Epic Games added the Infinity Blade to Fortnite battle royale. Shortly after its introduction, the item was criticized for being overpowered. Following a wave of extreme negative feedback, the developers have vaulted the weapon from Fortnite.
"We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game," says Epic in a tweet. "The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items."

The unique weapon can be found at Polar Peak, and the player who wields it gets a handful of powerful abilities. The weapon grants you double health and shields, increased movement speed, and shreds through both players and structures. There is only one Infinity Blade per match and the player holding it will drop it if they are killed.
The powerful nature of Infinity Blade gives off a strong 'Infinity Gauntlet' vibe, which was added to Fortnite as a limited time a few months ago. Unlike the event, however, the Infinity Blade was made part of the regular Fortnite game modes. The Infinity Blade was overpowered and, without a real counter, was ruining the gameplay experience of players.
Before removing the weapon entirely, Epic attempted to balance the weapon by tweaking the health regeneration aspect. This change did not really have an impact, so the players of the Infinity Blade were still dominating each match.
With so much new content being added to the game, it was only a matter of time before balance issues popped up. Even professional players agree that the Infinity Blade, in its current state, should not have been added to Fortnite. Epic says that, for the future, they are "re-evaluating" their approach to Mythic items. Hopefully, proper testing in the future will prevent mishaps such as this one. Farhan Ali
