XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9-a smart display

First came smart speakers and now we have smart displays. The trend which started with Amazon’s Alexa-powered Echo Show now includes smart displays powered by Google Assistant. The latest is LG’s XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9, a smart display made by LG in collaboration with Google.
The LG XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9 (LG XBOOM WK9 for short) shares a similar design to the JBL Link View – a display sandwiched between two speakers, though the front of the LG XBOOM WK9 is rectangular with curved corners and not oval like the JBL.

The smart display’s selling point is its audio. Unlike other smart displays that push audio performance to the back burner, LG has focused on this. The audio performance of the smart display was developed in partnership with Meridian Audio – an industry leader in audio solutions. LG says they worked together on providing the XBOOM WK9 with high-fidelity sound, accurate bass, and a precise vocal definition despite its small size.

The LG XBOOM WK9 has an 8-inch HD display flanked by two 20W speakers. It also has a 5MP camera for video calls, a feature missing on Google’s own Home Hub smart display. It comes in black, weighs 1.51kg and has a power rating of 5.6W.
Since it is powered by Google Assistant, you can use the smart display to control your smart devices that work with Google Assistant or use it to control other LG ThinQ products.
The LG XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9 is priced at about $300 but holiday savings should let you get it for less when it goes on sale.
