Any 911 center with access to the RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse will automatically receive faster and more accurate device-based caller location data for 911 calls from Android devices.
Android smartphones will share their location with 911 in case of an emergency call
Google announced earlier this year that it was testing a new feature for emergency calls, where the user's location is automatically shared with the help services in case of contact. This new system, which is now available in the US, was developed between Mountain View technology, T-Mobile and RapidSOS.Partner companies will help Google operate this program. RapidSOS, which ensures emergency communications at more than 1,000 relief centers, will help Google cover about 100 million citizens in the first phase of the launch. The agreement reached with T-Mobile ensures that customers of this operator will have access to the sharing of their location even outside RapidSOS 'coverage radius, since the company is the only one that supports this type of communication in the sector. This feature, which Google calls ELS, was initially announced in 2016, but only this year has been tested successfully. According to the American giant, the system is able to provide more accurate locations for users than the operators, who are normally in charge of the task in emergencies.ELS is supported on all Android devices running version 4.0 or higher. You do not need to install any additional app or upgrade your phone.
