Stickman is the Disney robot with new acrobatic abilities

Disney conceived a robot capable of defying gravity and producing gaudy acrobatics, very similar to humans. The Disney Stuntronics project, based on the Stickman experiment, is another example of the evolution of machines in terms of mobility and autonomy.As you can watch in the demo video provided by Disney, the robot is able to launch into the air, mimicking the most dramatic acrobatics that Hollywood stunts can perform.According to the engineers explained, at the project site, the robot features two levels of freedom, projecting from a pendulum to perform acrobatics in the air. Through an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a laser to measure distances, the robot can estimate its position during the jump and modify the positions, both when it is attached to the pendulum and during the dive. The robot also has an accelerometer and a gyroscope. This means that Stuntronics is autonomous and able to correct itself in real time during stunts.Disney will be able to use technology in its theme parks, replacing the traditional animatronics of certain attractions, to create more elaborate entertainment choreographies. Especially when the entertainment giant continues to feed its fantasy universes annually, whether it's Marvel's superheroes, Star Wars charismatic figures or Pixar's animated Works.
