Hamas creates "dating" apps to steal Israeli military data

Two fake apps, WinkChat and GlanceLove, became available at the Google Play digital store, supposedly dedicated to dating. It was at the heart of a Hamas stratagem to get personal information from the Israeli military's mobile phones and their location.According to the Guardian, about 100 IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) men and women downloaded the apps. The scheme will have already been dismantled after Operation Heartbreak Investigation, carried out by the Israeli army. The applications were available on Android devices and after installation, installed malware that gave access to the contacts and location of mobile phones, turning smartphones into surveillance systems through the camera and microphone. In clarification, the Israeli spokesman said there was no safety damage. According to the investigation, soldiers would be contacted via Facebook, from fake profiles of women, who after the conversation exchanged WhatsApp contacts. The victims then received a link to access the respective apps available on the Google service. In addition to the dating apps, another application linked to the 2018 FIFA World Cup was also part of the scheme. It was called Golden Cup and supposedly offered the best plays of the championship. This was being advertised in Hebrew on Facebook and had a very professional look, according to research Source.
