MARK PANEL DISPLAY WITH INSPIRED TECHNOLOGY IN JET HUNTING
Ford has developed a car warning display with technology originally used in jet fighters, which allows the driver to view information such as speed, navigation and traffic signals without having to look away from the runway. Compared to other type systems, its main advantage is that it can be used with polarized sunglasses. The new display is composed of a transparent polycarbonate screen installed at the top of the panel, in front of the steering wheel, and a built-in light projector. The first car to have this technology will be the new generation Focus in Europe. Some similar systems today have the drawback that they can not be used with polarized sunglasses, which, by eliminating the reflections, make the screen almost invisible. The Ford display emits the same kind of light that these lenses are designed to lock, but it bypasses the problem with the use of a carefully adjusted filter that bounces the polarized light back to the driver.Unlike the traditional screens of the genre, whose light waves vibrate parallel to the road, the new display emits waves of light that vibrate perpendicularly, allowing clear vision through the polarized lenses. Its polycarbonate screen features a multilayer reflective coating that allows engineers to control the polarization, color, transmission and reflection of light according to the needs of the system."Polarized sunglasses can make a big difference in the visibility of those driving under strong sun on reflective surfaces such as water, snow or even asphalt. Our new display allows all drivers to view the information and alerts they want without having to look down and have to readjust the focus, "says Glen Goold, senior program engineer at Ford of Europe.
