French schools begin to carry out 'technological detoxification' in schools
A French school announced that all students are prohibited from entering with smartphones in the immediate vicinity of the institution as of the next school year, which begins in September. The measure was taken after the lower house of parliament voted in favor of a law that encourages the "technological detoxification" of younger generations, where there is a growing addiction to all types of electronic equipment.Emmanuel Macron, the current president of France, assumed during the election campaign to be determined to discuss and take measures to disconnect the children from the virtual universe. Initially, Macron suggested that children be prevented from using mobile phones until the age of 15 in kindergartens, elementary schools and basic schools. The new legislation gives legal support to all educational institutions that fall into these categories, to ban the use of smartphones in the campus. Some supporters of the En Marche argued that legislation should be broader, including teachers, "who should set the example," but the final document does not record references to adults. The opposition parties have drawn attention to the fact that neither the parameters nor the methods that schools can apply to achieve this prohibition have been defined. One of the methods under discussion was the creation of lockers so that students could store their equipment. In the parliamentary debate, it was stressed that 90% of French children between the ages of 12 and 17 have a smartphone.
