Cibercriminosos aproveitam Mundial de Futebol para infetar computadores
Cybercriminals use World Cup to infect computers

Check Point has identified a new phishing campaign associated with the World Cup. The cyber security company has found that cybercriminals try to lure potential victims into downloading a gaming calendar and infected outcome recorder. When it is opened, the attached file uses a variant of malware called 'DownloaderGuide'. This is a program used to install applications such as toolbars, adware or system optimizers without the user's consent. Check Point researchers have determined that the campaign includes different executable files, all sent in emails with the subject "World_Cup_2018_Schedule_and_Scoresheet_V1. ## _ CB-DL-Manager".The campaign was born on May 30, 2018, and reached its peak of expansion on June 5. During last week, it had a new peak of activity, coinciding with the first games of the World-wide one."Cybercriminals know that sports events that attract large population groups are a golden opportunity to launch new campaigns," explains Maya Horowitz, director of Check Point's Threat Intelligence Group. "Thanks to the expectation and publicity that the World Cup generates, corporate employees are more likely to open unsolicited e-mails and attachments than they normally are. To avoid this, companies should take steps to remind their teams of practices they can help prevent these attacks from succeeding. "

Check Point also believes that companies should ensure phishing does not reach inboxes by using a multi-tiered security tool. "This is the only way they can protect themselves against known cyber attacks and new threats."
