Cryptocoins return to "fly" in yet another theft of millions

Bithumb, one of South Korea's leading crypto-currency operators and the seventh globally, suffered a computer-generated attack that produced an embezzlement of about 35 billion won - "translated" value at 27.2 million. The robbery happened between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the company said in a statement, which has become the second South Korean digital currency exchange to undergo cyberattack in less than two weeks. The theft prompted Bithumb to temporarily suspend its deposit and fund-raising services and to transfer the rest of its assets to a safer "cold ticket", which can make transfers to a non-internet-connected platform. "The losses will be offset by Bithumb's own deposit," it said in the statement. The news made the value of the criptomoedas suffer new break. Bitcoin fell 0.82% to $6,640.58 and Ethereum fell 1% to $526.0699.Bithumb is South Korea's second crypto-currency purse to be attacked this month after it hit Coinrail on June 19, which will have lost 30 percent of its assets.
